Spring Has Sprung in Northern Michigan: Here’s What to Do! 🌸🌞
Spring in Northern Michigan is like a breath of fresh air—literally. The snow melts, the days get longer, and suddenly we all remember what sunshine feels like again. If you’re itching to shake off the winter blahs and get out and about, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a round-up of some of our favorite things to do in our neck of the woods when spring finally shows up (fashionably late, of course).
🌷 Take a Walk on the Wildflower Side
As the forests start to wake up, so do the wildflowers. Take a stroll through places like Thorne Swift Nature Preserve or Petoskey State Park to spot trilliums, Dutchman’s breeches, and other native blooms. Bring your camera (or just your phone) because it’s a photo-op waiting to happen.
🚲 Dust Off Your Bike
Whether you’re a casual cruiser or a spandex-clad speedster, the Little Traverse Wheelway is calling your name. Ride along the lake from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs and soak in the views. Bonus points if you stop for coffee or ice cream along the way—spring calories don’t count.
🧺 Pack a Picnic

🎣 Cast a Line
The fish are waking up too! Trout season kicks off in April, and whether you’re a seasoned angler or just looking for an excuse to stand by a river for a few hours, spring fishing is a must. Bonus: It’s a great way to relax and unplug—no Wi-Fi on the water.
🌅 Catch a Spring Sunset
We get it—winter sunsets are like, 5:00 PM and you’re still at your desk. But now? You’ve got time to grab dinner and catch the sun dip below the horizon. Head to Sunset Park, Bayfront, or the top of Skyline Trail for that golden hour glow.
☕ Spring Sips & Patio Season
The minute it hits 50 degrees, we’re all suddenly patio people again. Visit your favorite local coffee shop or brewery—bonus points if they have outdoor seating and you can pretend it’s actually warm. Try a spring seasonal brew or a lavender latte and soak it in.
🌧 And if it Rains?
Don’t worry—spring showers are just part of the deal. Perfect excuse to check out the Crooked Tree Arts Center, pop into some shops downtown, or curl up with a good book from McLean & Eakin or Between the Covers (preferably with a bakery treat, too).
Spring is short, sweet, and oh-so-welcome in Northern Michigan. So throw on a light jacket (maybe bring a heavier one just in case), and get out there. We’ve earned this.
