HARBOR FB CoverOne in four children in our local community go hungry.  The Manna “Food 4 Kids” Backpack Program provides 2200 back packs each week to area preschool and elementary school age children. There has not been a program for our older children, until recently.  Petoskey Middle School Students who struggle with hunger during weekends now have an onsite food pantry called The Northmen Den to shop during the school year.  Every Friday between 40 to 44 students shop to feed not only themselves but also their younger siblings. They shop to prepare simple meals such as soup, peaches and fresh carrots, cucumbers, fresh fruits, potatoes, lettuce, etc. plus toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant, school supplies and clothing.

These are youngsters who are ages 11, 12 and 13 years of age.  They are just beginning their journey of discovery about who they are as individuals and learning what resources are available to help them succeed.  These children should not have to think about what and how they will be able to eat each weekend.

The first annual “Give a Kid a Chance” will be taking place at Harbor/Brenn Agencies and Fletch’ s of Petoskey for the entire month of April.  Harbor/Brenn will be collecting canned and non-perishable food items, toiletries, and new or gently used clothing, as well as monetary donations here in our office for the entire month.    Fletch’s of Petoskey will be promoting the event as well with donations made for each car purchase as well as “Stuff the Bus” with items needed at the pantry including backpacks. Please “like” both Harbor/Brenn Agencies and Fletch’ s of Petoskey Facebook pages to learn more about each of our locations promotions. You can access each by clicking below.

Our goal is to raise at least $22,000- which is the cost of running the The Northmen Den for one year. However, we would love to be able to finance the start up for a similar pantry at the High School.

Thank you for your consideration and generous contributions in our continuing efforts to make our hometowns thrive.
